4th Grade Teacher

Oak Hill School, an independent K-12 School in Eugene, Oregon is seeking applicants for a full-time 4th grade teacher for the 2020-21 school year. This is a permanent full-time position. Oak Hill is known for its commitment to a rigorous and diverse academic curriculum within small class sizes. Our curriculum includes three foreign languages K-12, robust Art, Music and Drama and Natural World programs. Our mission is to provide the best K-12 education, creating caring and responsible critical thinkers.

Interested candidates should have extensive experience working with elementary level students and demonstrated competence in carrying out the duties of a primary school teachers. Schedule: Full Time, 1.0 FTE – 10-month appointment

Reports to: Assistant Head of School

Position Duties and Responsibilities

Faculty members are expected to:

• Be effective teachers and excel in curriculum development and implementation

• Select and develop instructional materials; plan and organize instruction to enhance student learning; create appropriate assignments to encourage student learning, the development of communication skills, and higher order thinking.

• Use a variety of proven methods of engagement and assessment that facilitate student mastery of the content.

• Demonstrate knowledge of teaching practices and a commitment to teaching within a caring, highly academic environment.

• Strive to increase teaching effectiveness through the application of appropriate teaching and learning strategies; evaluate student learning and modify instructional methods and strategies as appropriate to meet diverse student needs.

• Respect the confidentiality of student information; refrain from discussing or releasing such information except within recognized limits.

• Create and revise, develop and update where appropriate, program curricula.

• Supervise students, ensuring a safe and healthy environment in the classroom and other areas of campus.

• Work with families and communicate in a clear and supportive manner.

• Stay abreast of current educational research and best practices.

• Pursue continual professional growth.

• Exhibit flexibility, positivity and a willingness to collaborate on various teaching platforms including distance learning models, hybrid models, and on site models of education due to state policies around COVID-19.

Education and Experience

• A Bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education; a Masters degree is preferred.

• Minimum of 3+ years of teaching experience

• Experience in developing and writing curriculum, knowledge of current trends and research in learning and assessment and strong oral and written communication skills

• Flexibility and adaptability to meet the needs of the children and the program.

• The successful candidate will also possess a positive attitude, excellent written and verbal skills, strong organizational skills and proven success within a work setting that requires collaboration, cooperation and collegiality.

• A willingness to collaborate and engage in dialogue about instructional practices with peers, and an interest in participating at a school wide level in activities is essential.

This position is subject to a successful background check. This position must speak, read, write and communicate clearly in English. This position may be required to lift up to 30 pounds. Due to COVID, this position may be required to work on-site and via remote for distance learning.
