Pre-Kindergarten Applicants

Oak Hill School’s Pre-Kindergarten Program is a warm, welcoming, dynamic, and wonderful place for bright four and five year olds. This program is intentionally small, capped at 8 students (currently 6, due to COVID-19 restrictions) in order to ensure that our youngest students receive the care, attention, support, and education they deserve. With such limited space, a waiting list often materializes quickly, so we urge you to start the application process now!

A Finalized Application Requires Completion of All these Steps:

1. Make an initial Inquiry:

This can be by phone, e-mail, or scheduling an in-person tour. We’re a friendly bunch.

2. Schedule a Program Visit:

We’ve got a beautiful campus and a special program.

We’re proud of Oak Hill’s Pre-K and we love to show it off. You can schedule a visit using our Schedule a Visit form, found here:

Schedule a Visit Form

3. Complete the application form and related materials and pay the $100 application fee:

At the conclusion of your tour, you will receive a folder of OHS Application Materials.

The forms can also be found here:

     Medical Information Sheet

The application fee can be paid via PayPal or Check (made out to Oak Hill School) or by Card (please call 541-744-0954.)

4. Schedule and Complete a Gesell Assessment:

Ms. Kathy or Ms. Mary Ellen will administer the Gesell Assessment to each Pre-K applicant. This is not so much a test but an evaluation tool which helps us to gauge a child’s readiness for pre-kindergarten. This assessment takes approximately 30 minutes and is primarily conversational.

Please contact James Pearson, Director of Admissions,
at jpearson@oakhillschool.net or call 541.744.0954 x 105

Kindergarten Applicants

Over the past several years, word has gotten out about Oak Hill School’s Kindergarten Program. It is an enriching, nurturing, and wonderful place for our youngest students, full of rewards and surprises and triumphs. It’s important to all of us that we keep our classroom numbers low so that we don’t lose that sense of intimacy, that feeling of community, and the caring, personal attention that makes our kindergarten such a magical space.

We have seen the number of applicants more than double. And so, in order to handle the applications, a new kindergarten-specific process has been implemented.

A Finalized Application Requires Completion of All these Steps:

1. Make an initial Inquiry:

This can be by phone, e-mail, or scheduling an in-person tour. We’re a friendly bunch.

2. Schedule a campus tour:

We’ve got a beautiful campus and nice kids. We’re proud of our school and happy to show it off. The best times for a tour are between the hours of 9am and 2pm as students are in class and our teachers are teaching. Seeing both groups in action is the best evidence of the quality of an OHS education. However, parents have busy schedules. If another time works better, it’s a simple thing to arrange.

3. Complete the application form and related materials and pay the $100 application fee:

At the conclusion of your tour, you will receive a folder of OHS information. This includes an application and other needed documentation for applying. Kindergarten forms are also available here:

Kindergarten Teacher Recommendation

Kindergarten Records Release

The application fee can be paid via PayPal or Check (made out to Oak Hill School) or by Card (please call 541-744-0954.)

4. Sign-up for one of our scheduled day visits:

This is a two hour session on a Saturday morning, from 9am to 11am. We can accommodate ten students per session. This block of time will give your student a chance to meet Ms. Kathy and to experience school at Oak Hill. We want to see and get to know the children in a social/academic setting in order to evaluate their readiness for kindergarten.

*Please note that the application and the application fee must be turned in on or before the day visit. Other documents can wait, but we do need the official application.

5. Schedule and Complete a Gesell Assessment:

Ms. Kathy or Ms. Mary Ellen will administer the Gesell Assessment to each applicant. This is not so much a test but an evaluation tool which helps us to observe and measure a child’s readiness for the kindergarten classroom. This assessment takes approximately forty-five minutes and is primarily conversational. The Gesells are arranged for the week before the day visits because we find that it helps children to meet Ms. Kathy and Ms. Mary Ellen prior to the Saturday visit.

Please contact James Pearson, Director of Admissions,
at jpearson@oakhillschool.net or call 541.744.0954 x 105
to schedule a time.

6. Admission Decision:

Once an application is complete, the Admissions Office circulates the application through an Admissions Committee comprised of a small number of faculty and staff members. We try to build a balanced, well-rounded class of eager, smart and sweet kids.

International Student Applicants

New Stories, New Adventures

Oak Hill School believes strongly in the power of education to forge students who will be ready, eager and curious to explore the wide world. To further this goal, OHS has developed a robust International Student program.

Each year, 8 to 10 students from around the globe join our student body.

They live in host homes with carefully vetted families. In the past, our international students have arrived from such diverse cultures and countries as: Thailand, Mexico, China, South Korea, Taiwan, Malaysia, Pakistan, France, and Russia—but we’re always looking for new students with new stories and new adventures. The only shared characteristic among them is a burning desire to learn and to excel and to experience the type of education Oak Hill School is able to provide.

For further information regarding International Student applications, tuition costs, or I-20s, please contact James Pearson, Admissions Director, at: jpearson@oakhillschool.net.

Students and parents may also wish to visit our page at Eduhup.

Admission Testing

Kindergarten & First Grade:

All students entering Kindergarten and 1st grade are required to take the Gesell Assessment. For 1st graders, this will take place on the student’s day visit.

Upper School:

Students entering grades 6-12 will need to complete assessment tests in math and reading/literature. Usually, this too will occur on their day visit but, occasionally and due to time constraints, an additional appointment might be necessary.

International Students:

International students are also required to complete an English language proficiency exam. Acceptable tests include SLATE, SLEP, and TOEFL Jr, and we will accept other exam scores.
