Admissions Process

Our Admissions Process

At Oak Hill School, we strive to create a learning community where all students can thrive. Our admissions process is designed to be welcoming, transparent, and equitable, giving families and students the opportunity to learn about each other and the school.

1. Open Enrollment Period
Families can apply during our designated open enrollment period each year, ensuring fair access for all prospective students.

2. Brief Application
Submit a brief application to help us understand your student’s interests, strengths, and learning needs. This step allows both families and the school to begin exploring if Oak Hill is a good fit.

3. School Tour
After the brief application, our admissions team will contact you to schedule a tour. Tours provide families a firsthand look at our classrooms, meet faculty, and experience our experiential learning approach in action.

4. Full Application
Following the tour, families submit a full application and $100 application fee. This allows the school to gather all necessary information to make an informed admissions decision, which is typically made in early spring.

5. Assessments & Shadow Day
Some students may participate in brief assessments to better understand their learning needs. Students may also have the opportunity to spend a day at Oak Hill to experience school life firsthand.

If you have questions or need accommodations at any stage, please contact our Director of Enrollment, Chrissa Dockendorf, at cdockendorf@oakhillschool.net.
We are happy to guide your family every step of the way.

Our Approach to Enrollment Evaluation

At Oak Hill School, we use a holistic and developmentally appropriate approach to understanding each applicant as a learner and as a person.

Our admissions team gathers information through:
  • Family conversations
to learn about your child’s strengths, interests, and needs
  • Age-appropriate academic snapshots
including early literacy, math thinking, and writing samples
  • Hands-on problem-solving activities
which allow students to show creativity, persistence, and collaboration
  • Student conversations
to understand how they think about learning and community
  • Reflections from families after the visit
Our goal is to build a complete picture of your child not just their academic profile, but also how they approach challenges, express ideas, and thrive in different environments.

Assessments are designed to be welcoming, equitable, and aligned with our mission of experiential learning and whole-child development. We do not expect applicants to “prepare” or study.
