Core Academics
English language arts, mathematics, social studies and science serve as the foundation for student success. Our educators are less focused on the memorization of facts than they are on presenting information and challenging students in ways that promote creativity, innovation and collaboration. Our learners benefit from small class sizes and meaningful relationships with our educators.

Foreign Languages
Two foreign languages are taught at Oak Hill School: Mandarin Chinese and Spanish. Grades K-2 learn both languages and have the opportunity to choose which of the two they would like to pursue in grades 3-8. In addition to the languages, students are immersed in the history and traditions of each culture. When students enter an area high school, they are more than prepared to further their foreign language education.
-
Natural World
Situated on 72 acres of oak savannah, orchards, forest, grasslands and rolling hills, our campus is home to variety of wildlife. Science and art instruction are often held at the pond, and well-marked trails weave through the woods and welcome exploration. We support sustainability in every way, offering an experience that prepares students to lead us toward a more sustainable planet. They learn about natural systems, conservation, gardening, beekeeping, cartography, and how to identify animal tracks.
-
Outdoor Pursuits
Middle school-age students apply their natural world and physical fitness education in our outdoor pursuits. From snow camping to summiting 10,358-foot South Sister in the Cascades, students learn essential outdoor skills, such as trip planning, knots, shelter building, fire starting, map and compass navigation, and the 10 essentials for survival. They also build self-confidence and respect for the outdoors along the way.
-
Visual Arts
Our award-winning art program and dedicated artistic space allow for creative visual expression and hands-on art projects using a variety of media, including drawing, painting, pottery fired in our own on-campus kilns, mixed media and more. In addition to learning art fundamentals, art history, and the purpose of art, our students are encouraged to explore their imagination to produce original work.
-
Music & Theater
Our students gain confidence and have a whole lot of fun participating in our music and theater programs. The social, physical and mental benefits of music and theater are valuable and numerous. We introduce them to the fundamentals of music and theater in ways that foster teamwork, creativity and pure joy. From our rock and jazz bands to full on-stage theater productions, our musicians and thespians are encouraged to tap into their talents and learn new skills.
-
Technology
From typing to coding and moviemaking to making our school’s yearbook, our students gain applied technology skills in a variety of ways. Much like technology itself, our tech curriculum and offerings are ever-changing and are often adapted to students’ interests. In addition to technology fundamentals, students are afforded the opportunity to learn how to use a variety of software programs, such as Photoshop and InDesign.

Physical Education & Athletics
Our overall philosophy stresses healthy bodies and lifestyles, as well as healthy, curious minds. Athletics and outdoor pursuits are key elements of our program. Students enjoy both physical activities and P.E. classes. Elementary students can also play soccer, basketball and other sports, depending on demand and interest. Middle school students participate in girls and boys basketball, girls volleyball and cross country, as part of the Mountain West Athletic Conference.

Extracurricular Activities
Oak Hill students and families are actively involved in enrichment programs that enhance our school community. Our after-school classes and clubs often include art, singing, chess, speech and public speaking, acting, computer coding, Minecraft club, Lego robotics, baking and more. These classes are often based on student interest and demand.
